What I Wore: I’m So Blue
Any long time reader of this blog knows that I have a deep love of the color blue. A long and abiding love my friends. If you were to look at my closet you would see every shade of blue represented from Navy to Cerulean to Tiffany to Sky Blue. ALL the shades of ALL the blues you can imagine.
I heart blue.
This weeks What I Wore is a celebration of my favorite color. There is even a special guest this week. My husband Jerry makes an appearance wearing two of my favorite shades of blue together. He actually let me take his photo to use in a fashion post!! He is so good to me. Yay for supportive husbands!
Here we go…first up we have an “off the shoulder” navy blue top with embroidered details at the hem from nyjd and a knit skirt from the Talbots Outlet. I have to admit I am not totally in love with this look. I think it might have to do with how uncomfortable I am in wearing something off the shoulder. I think the last time I did that, it was to my high school prom. Let’s just say my shoulders are a little more round these days. I’m just not used to how it feels. What do y’all think of this look?
Here we have this lovely navy blue maxi dress. I love, love, love the lace detailing trailing down on the shoulders to the waist. It makes for a very pretty cap sleeve. I removed the tag because it was itchy so I can’t even tell you what brand it is. So sorry friends.
Remember how I told you not to be bold in working through your body issues? Well, you may know that I am not a fan of my upper arms at all. They make me feel so large and unladylike. BUT, I decided last year that was no longer going to stop me from wearing pretty things. So here I am in all my upper arm glory.
The shoes are from DSW bought almost five years ago. I don’t even know the brand since it’s worn off the shoe. The necklace was a gift. What do you think of the front slit? Too much? You guys know I am pretty conservative when it comes to my fashion choices and body coverage so let me know what you think.
I love denim. Dark wash, light wash, chambray. Denim blue is my jam. I have paired my favorite denim jacket with a navy blue window pane blouse from Talbots and a mustard yellow knit skirt from LuLaRoe. This color combo is one of my go to color combos. I don’t wear a lot of warm color tones, but this yellow is one of them. I also pair it with burgundy and deep forest green. The blouse can be worn with skinny jeans as well which is what I usually do.
This happy little outfit was what I wore for Divine Mercy Sunday. Originally I had selected it for Easter but then we ended up at the Sunrise service in the old church yard so I made a different choice that morning. This little diddy reminds me of the dresses made in the 1940’s. The curved empire waist, the keyhole detail (which is hard to see in this photo) along with the flutter hem. The sweater has front pockets and the white and navy edging detail compliments the dresses pattern. It’s a new spring favorite. Both dress and sweater and from Talbots. Shoes are more than three years old. So comfy.
Last we have my very handsome hubby in a colored golf shirt from JosABank house brand and navy blue anchor shorts from Nautica. I love the graphic print and of course it’s the perfect compliment for my Navy guy. The fact that Jerry allowed me to suggest the pairing of a striped shirt with a graphic short is nothing short of astonishing. Doesn’t he look handsome though? I thinks so.
Both my guys are not big fans of color. Jonathan wears green, grey and navy but that’s about it. Jerry allows me a little more leeway in cultivating his wardrobe. Those shorts will be worn with a solid red golf shirt for July fourth and a pink one for Mother’s Day. Yes, my man wears pink and looks darn good doing it.
Here is a little closer look. Check out the pattern mixing. It’s subtle right? Jerry didn’t even hesitate in wearing it. I love it. Classic preppy vibe paired with the boat shoes he is wearing above.
Another fun post, thank you for sharing your lovely wardrobe with us! I really love how you put thought in what you wear, and it shows. A little time and thoughts can make such a wonderful difference. I love color and welcome the warmer months so I can wear even more of it. I, too, have more rounded shoulders and my neck is not flattered by a round or off-the-shoulder neckline, so I stick to v-necks and the few square necklines that are out there. It’s amazing how flattering the right neckline can be! And oh, yes, REAL men DO wear pink!

I am so so happy to see that long navy blue dress with the shoulder detailing. I bought it for the same reason, love the effect of that lace, but also bought with similar hesitancy about my arms. And have been wondering what shoes to pair with it. And if the front slit is too much. Seeing your picture, I have decided it is not too much and that fluffy arms are no reason to not wear this fun dress. And will be wearing this in public soon. Mary, I think the maxi dress looks terrific on you. The slit may be too much for the grocery store, but a summer picnic or BBQ or dinner out is the perfect venue for that dress. I love the way you work in the details and finishing touches. You are so beautiful, inside and out. 🙂

Oh you two make me smile. Yeah for supportive spouses. I can’t wear pastels no matter how lovely they look on the rack. They just wash me out. I love blue, just like you. Blue is my happy color. Just makes me feel good. You look great, Mary. Happy Mother’s Day.
