What do you have?
This morning in Mass, my pastor Fr. Barkett, asked a question that I have been pondering all day. “What do you have?” His question was in response to today’s Gospel where the Apostles come to Jesus w/great concern on how they will feed the 5,000 plus people who have come to hear Our Lord speak. Jesus simply asks “What do you have?” They bring him five loaves of bread and two fish. That’s it. That’s all they could gather. It wasn’t enough and they knew it. Yet with God ALL things are possible, so Jesus multiplies those loaves and fishes allowing everyone to eat and be satisfied. He made it enough because HE IS ENOUGH.
I have struggled throughout my life with the idea of not being enough. Heck, I wrote a whole book about it. When I look at these photographs of myself in the fourth grade and as a sophomore in High School, I remember that painful struggle like it was yesterday. The doubt and the worry that I wasn’t smart enough or pretty enough or savvy enough or holy enough or (insert the need here) enough.
Today is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi where we celebrate the true presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist, which is the source and summit of our faith as Catholics. He is our daily bread. He strengthens our weakened nature by His presence in the Eucharist. He meets our every need right there on the altar of sacrifice.
When I finally learned to bring what little I had to God, He multiplied it by five trillion because He is good and generous, ALWAYS. He continues to do that for me today and it takes my breath away every time I receive Him in the Eucharist.
The Eucharist is the answer making what we have enough to do the job He commissioned us for, to go forth and love in His name. We have enough because He is enough.
“What do you have? What is it you want/need God to do in your life? Bring it to Him friends and watch what miracles abound as He multiples it by five trillion.
