project encouragement: more love letters…
Hey Friends –
I know it’s been a while since I have written on these pages. Life has been busy with finishing the edits for my book as well as other writing projects. Then the flu came to town and finally the holiday season and all the commitments that come with it.
Needless to say I have missed it here and I hope to be much more present in the coming weeks.
Today I wanted to stop in and tell y’all abut a fabulous service opportunity called More Love Letters. It’s spearheaded by Hannah Brencher, a writer and national speaker whose second book, “Come Matter Here” was one of my favorite reads for 2018. Hannah has made it her personal mission to put more love and encouragement out into the world and she does it through letters of encouragement and love.
From December 3-14, The World Needs More Love Letters is rolling out its biggest, grandest, most festive love letter writing campaign of the year!
For the last 7 years, they’ve been putting a bow on the holiday season by rolling out 12 letter requests over a span of 12 days. That’s no joke… 12 days, 12 letter requests, and a whole lot of holiday cheer.
The 12 Days of Love Letter Writing is a perfect way for you to show up this season and help people in need around the world. Grab your friends or classmates, kids or students, and rally together to bring some goodwill into the world this December. All you need is some stationery and a few stamps.
Each day, they publish a new letter request to the More Love Letters blog. Write one letter or submit a note to all 12 bundles! The choice is yours! All letters should be postmarked by December 20, 2017. Your love letters will be bundled up with other letters from across the world and delivered by the new year!
I have chosen to write a letter to Chris and I invite you to join me in writing a letter to her as well. Her granddaughter Nicole sent along a little note about her grandmother and the difficult time she’s been having…
From More Love Letters:
Nicole (Chris’s granddaughter) has reached out to us + requested a bundle for her grandmother during an especially tough season of life.
She shares: “ My grandma, Chris, has had a rough go of it the past few months. She has been bounced around from hospitals to skilled nursing centers, and has been displaced from her little home. She recently turned eighty-eight years old and has been facing various health issues like a champ–not complaining, not telling us when things are hurting her or if she’s feeling ill because she doesn’t want to bother us. Even though she has been handling everything so well, I’m sure she is a bit discouraged. She is lonely and feeling displaced. She lost her husband (my grandpa) fourteen years ago and has gone from driving (she loved to drive!) and living on her own to years of living in a nursing home by herself. She has always been super strong for all of us and we would love to give her this one of a kind gift of love and encouragement.”
Y’all, Let’s send Chris some love this holiday season. I imagine that one day I might be in her same position and I would hope someone would take the time to “see” me and encourage me on my walk. So let’s do that for Chris. Take a moment and jot down a few words of encouragement. Have your kids draw pictures or write a note themselves. Have your small group join in or your neighbor. Just imagine her smiling face when she is showered with those letters.
All letters need to be postmarked by December 20, 2018 so let’s get this done y’all.
Please join us in sharing some joy + hope with Chris through a bundle of letters!
