above all scripture study for lent
Can you believe that Lent is only one month away?
I just took down my Christmas tree a week ago and now I find myself contemplating Lent and Easter. This year Ash Wednesday arrives on Valentine’s Day and Easter Sunday on April first. That’s just nuts!
Despite the crazy calendar this year, I have to say I am really looking forward to Lent after the business of the last few months. I am feeling a bit weary these days and when that happens, it’s time for an internal inventory of what needs to go and what needs to stay.
For me Lent is a time to slow down and take a liturgical deep breath. I simplify everything during that time from my daily schedule to my meal plan. It’s a time for prayer, penance and almsgiving. I look at every aspect of my life from what I am reading and watching as well as what I’m listening to. I ask myself simply “Does this bring me closer to God or further away? Does it cause distraction and discontent or being healing and peace?”
Depending on the answer, I remove it from my day. During Lent I want to be really mindful of making space in my heart and mind for God, listening earnestly for His still small voice to speak to my heart.

This year I am really looking forward to Take Up and Reads Lenten Scripture Study called “Above All”. Now, I am saying this not only because I am a contributor, (although that helps) but because it is a phenomenal bible study that I promise will make a wonderful Lenten companion this year.
The Take Up And Read team worked hard on making “Above ALL” an intentional, beautiful guide for your Lent. We have made improvements with each study we have published and this one is no exception. There are Scripture reflections written by some of your favorite writers such as Elizabeth Foss, Kathryn Whitaker, Kate Wicker, Emily DeArdo, Heather Henshaw , Anna Hahn and more, including updated journaling pages, prayers to help you remain focused and beautiful art.
Kristin Foss our Art Director has worked with her team to create a layout that is user friendly and beautiful to the eye starting with the cover art by Christie Peters of Every Sacred Sunday fame. What a talented artist she is. Kristin’s team have also incorporated many of your suggestions from our Advent Journal Rooted in Hope and I think you are really going to love it.
My friend Rakhi of RakStarDesigns did the hand lettered calligraphy in this journal and her work is just as beautiful as she is.
You all LOVED Rooted In Hope for Advent and I have no doubt you will LOVE Above ALL as you enter more deeply into relationship with the Lord during Lent.
You can join in the daily discussions in the comments section of the TUAR Blog or over on Facebook. and chat with Alison who wears many hats including writer, photographer as well as running our Instagram page. Micaela not only wrote a devotion for Above All, but does a fabulous job running the Twitter for us as well. We are excited to announce that ALL the profits from Above All will be donated to Adore Ministries in Houston to support ongoing Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
I look forward to sharing more with all of you daily during Lent on Instagram and Facebook. I am ready to dig in my friends. You only have one month to prepare, so head on over to Amazon and get your copy today
If you don’t believe me then check out this post by my friend Rosie Hill. You really do need to go get “Above All” my friends. It will change your Lenten experience I promise.
Thank you for supporting this ministry my friends. It means so much to me. Looking forward to spending Lent with you my friends as we prepare for the greatest gift ever given us by Our Lord….the Resurrection of His Son Jesus, the one who redeems us all.
