Last week the laity of the Catholic Church was dealt a blow that many, including myself, are still reeling from. Details of sexual abuse of minors by priests in Pennsylvania over the course of last 70 years were released. I read the report and about one third of the way through, I had to stop. I just could not stomach any more details. Although most of the abuse took place prior to 2002, what was done and how it was covered up by church hierarchy makes me want to scream from the mountain tops.
At first I was in a “burn it all down” kind of place and then as I took my anger and my deep disappointment to prayer, I began to understand that I had a say here. My voice matters. No one was going to force me out of my church. I decided to fight back. I wrote my bishop, I wrote my pastor and I reached out to other Catholics in social media to see what else I could do.
Today I stand with hundreds of other faithful Catholics, joining with my brothers and sisters in Christ, raising our voices as one to say that we as the Body of Christ, demand justice for the victims of the priest abuse scandal, we stand in solidarity that change must come and those responsible for the cover-up and lies, be held accountable for their actions.
We will not abandon our church in the midst of this crisis nor will we abandon those good and holy men who serve with a clear conscience and a pure heart.
We will be silent no more. Beginning Aug.22, 2918, we will begin 40 days of prayer and fasting in reparation of the sins committed and for the healing of the victims.
Join us won’t you? You can say turbo Chaplet of Reparation with us daily, as well as fast from whatever you chose, as a public act of repentance.
